ButterShare

ButterShare: Send Large Files Free, No Size Limits ButterShare is a browser-based peer-to-peer file transfer tool that streams files directly between two devices over an encrypted WebRTC connection without uploading them to cloud storage. ## Key Features • No file size limits: Tested with 100GB+ transfers; practical maximum depends on device disk space, browser capabilities, and network conditions. • Direct device-to-device streaming: Files stream in real time, written to disk in chunks using the browser's Origin Private File System (OPFS). • Zero cloud storage: During transfer, file data does not pass through cloud storage or any ButterShare server. • End-to-end encryption: Every 64KB chunk is sealed with cryptographic keys held exclusively by the two connected devices. • Cross-platform compatibility: Works on Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android, and ChromeOS. • No account required: Transfer sessions use ephemeral 8-character room codes that expire automatically. • Folder sharing: Preserves directory hierarchy so files arrive organized exactly as they left. • Large-file streaming pipeline: Multi-gigabyte folders and raw archives stream via OPFS, allowing transfers larger than computer RAM. ## Use Cases • Video editors & filmmakers: Stream massive 50GB–200GB raw footage batches directly to colorists and directors with zero upload queues or cloud penalty fees. • Game devs & 3D artists: Send game builds, textured environment files, and animation rigs instantly. Connections max out local network bandwidth at gigabit speeds. • DevOps & developers: Share complete database snapshots and container images between machines with bit-level integrity and zero cloud intermediate footprint. • Music producers & audio: Collaborate on album masters and stem packages with fellow musicians and engineers with pure bit-for-bit fidelity and zero file size ceiling. • Legal & enterprise confidential: When privacy matters, ButterShare avoids third-party cloud file storage and transfers through an encrypted browser connection. • Universal web compatibility: Transfer files wirelessly between Android, Windows, Mac, and iOS directly in any browser tab without cables, companion apps, or setup. ## How It Works 1. Drop or Select Files: Drag and drop any files or entire folders into ButterShare. Folders are automatically bundled in your browser without size limits. 2. Share Room Code or QR: Share the generated 8-character room code, direct URL link, or QR code with the receiver via chat, email, or messaging. 3. Direct Stream Transfer: The receiver enters the code or opens the link to start a secure browser connection. Files stream directly between devices without cloud storage.
